The project proposal is to ensure across 50 (fifty) poor helpless and destitute old aged persons in Gatanga village and elsewhere access safe accommodation, tender love, proper care, nutritious meals, health service and other basic needs through establishment and operation of a sustainable old aged persons home.
Specific objectives
- To establish a well-constructed, well managed, community participated and safe old aged home at a suitable place.
- To ensure adequate nourishment and clothes for the elderly people
- To ensure access to instant and quality health care
- To create an effective an old age friendly learning environment for the poor helpless and destitute and old aged persons within the old aged home so that they can live peacefully as their own home.
- To provide an old aged persons access to fellowship activities, recreational facilities, mental support, social affairs and spiritual formation.
- To provide resource generating activities for financial sustainability of the old aged home beyond donor funding.
Rationale for the Project
Mangu area, which is a semi-arid area lower part of Muranga County is intense with poverty, famine, drought, natural disasters, land disputes, poor weather conditions for food production, political instability, animal attacks i.e. hippos, hyenas coupled with chronic diseases and poor maternal healthcare, low literacy levels and lack of water are contributing in turning a large number of old aged persons into helpless and destitute each year.
There is generalized and pronounced lack of health, nutrition, and care services for indigenous poor helpless and destitute old aged persons interfering with their physical, mental social and spiritual development and well-being ultimately heading to uncertain and frustrated life.
Light of the old vision organization(LOVO) identified the following underlying causes for the above situations in Gatanga, Muranga county.
- There is no residential facility for the poor helpless and destitute and old aged persons at a place where they can live under proper care to them in peaceful mind without any harassment for their life.
- The family or care giver of the poor helpless and destitute an old aged person or an old aged person himself/ herself cannot afford adequate goods for his/her proper nutrition.
- The old aged and helpless persons do not get health care services and remain untreated and maltreated for many diseases.
- In many cases, the poor helpless old aged are often deprived of proper care, tender love and participation in social events and spiritual activities etc as being they were neglected.
This project has been undertaken to address the above problem and its underlying causes.

Implementation Plan
How we intend to implement the project
- Selection of the place – The place for establishment of the old aged home has already been selected. It will be established at Gatanga south village. Woman will contribute 10 acres of land for the establishment of the home and for resource generating activities for the home. The establishment place is close to main road and easily accessible all seasons.
- Construction of the old aged home- The old aged home will be a 200 square feet semi concrete building consisting of one male living room, one female, living room, one common room, one dining room, one office room, guest room, sick room, three living rooms for the home staff, kitchen and toilet facilities. A borehole and water tanks will be constructed for supply of safe water. A local contractor will be selected for the construction of the old aged home through bidding process according to the procurement guidelines to be set by woman. The construction work will be completed by the first 3 months of the project.

A procurement committee will procure these equipment facilities according to the procumbent guideline of work.
Staff recruitment
The following staff will be recruitment under this project.

All the staffs will be recruited based on their experience, expertise and qualification.
A recruitment committee of 100mtrs will be responsible for the recruitment process.
Formation of an old aged home management committee
An old age home management committee consisting of representative from executive members and senior management staff of woman project manager a local pastor, village elders will be established at the beginning if the project.
Woman management committee will be responsible for overall management of the old aged home and review its progress and performance.
On behalf of the management committee project manager as chief officer of the home will be in direct responsibility for management of the home implementation of its services and supervision of the staff.
The management committee will sit on quarterly review meeting. Project manager will submit quarterly progress reports to the management committee as well as to the donor.
